One of the horrors of war is that it can corrupt the innocent victims as well as the aggressors. Just as a 'good' soldier can become careless of life's virtue, and even cruel, so an 'innocent' victim is in danger of hating those who made her suffer, and therefore being 'innocent' no more.
Some people condemn extreme cruelty but are blind to their own sinfulness. Apparently good people can move towards great evil one centimetre at a time.
When a person lives only to satisfy his appetites, and even treats a child with disdain and cruelty, it is as though he is separated from God by hundreds of miles of impenetrable cloud. It would take a miracle of grace to touch his heart and soul, and change him.
When a man lives only to satisfy his own appetites, and even treats a child with cruelty, he needs a miracle of grace, if he is to be changed and one day to be ready for Heaven, not Hell - to live amongst the Saints and Angels.

There are some people in powerful positions who misuse their power. If they are cruel to the people in their charge, and do not repent and change their ways, before they die, there will be terrible consequences for them.
Someone who has been powerful in earthly life, yet cruel to the people in his care, finds, after death - if he has not repented - that he is in the power of the evil one, in Hell, experiencing the powerlessness once felt by people in his charge.
How strange that societies which endlessly try to protect children from harm also allow doctors to inflict the cruelty of abortion on the unborn child
A parent who, for selfish reasons, walks away from a spouse and children, is doing dreadful damage that can leave the children emotionally and spiritually crippled. God wants those sorts of parents to repent of their cruelty, and their new and immoral relationships.
A man with a spirit of violence is rarely still, but rushes here and there, seeking pleasure in his greed, and his lust for revenge. Yet unless he repents before he dies he will one day slide down into Hell, calling out to God, in terror, but too late. That man will experience, at last, what he had mercilessly inflicted upon his victims, and will suffer with those cruel demons forever, in Hell.
Everyone who sincerely repents of his sins, before he dies, will be forgiven by God, as Christ has promised. Yet someone who has acted with unimaginable cruelty is left in great need of penance and purification. He can find that, in Purgatory, he is allowed to reflect on his great wickedness, and on the mercy of God who has saved him from Hell, in circumstances similar to those in which he once confined his victims. It will be a long time before he is ready for Heaven.
The 'quality control' exercised towards humans, denying life, is loathsome to God. God wants every woman to know the truth about the gift of life. It is a gift from God, even if circumstances are not what a woman would want. He wants every woman to know that there is a fork in the road, ahead. When a mother decides to rid herself of her unborn child, and have it aborted, she is taking the road away from God and Heaven, by her cruelty, and the taking of innocent life.
In medieval times, powerful men had a castle, with towers used as dungeons for enemies. A worse fate awaits people who die in unrepented sin, especially acts of malice or cruelty towards their fellow men. God does not want to send people to Hell. Wicked people condemn themselves, for if they refuse to live with God, Who is good, they must live without goodness, or peace, or love.
People in various places around the world are treated with routine cruelty, because of their ideology or type of religion. This is because the strong have power over the weak, for whom they have no respect. Life in those places is no better than life in the stone age, when the strong ruled the weak in a similar manner.
Good Christians shine out a light into a troubled world; but there are many places where little or no light can be seen, in Christ's sight: places where many evils, cruelties, tortures, enslavements and acts against helpless women are perpetrated by people who want to remain in power.
Christ sees dark clouds of evil across much of the globe, clouds which hide the many cruelties and evils practiced against people of other races, religions, or another gender: all sorts of enslavement and torture, by people who want to retain their power. Black clouds over western Europe represent the evils occurring in abortion clinics.
God looks on us with gladness whenever we pray for victims of oppression, whether for people in danger of injustice or death for political or religious reasons. God sees those forgotten millions whose bodies are dumped in mass graves, just as He sees the tragic sight of abortion, by which millions of tiny babies have been killed in the wombs of their own mothers, usually at her request.
Christ wants us to realise that wherever there is suffering and injustice, His love is needed: His love, and respect for all who are generally treated as inferior or even worthless: girls and women, the uneducated or sick or disabled, or people of another race or background. A really just society is one that follows the teachings of Christ. We can ask, as a 'measure' of justice anywhere on earth, 'How are women treated in their families?'
There are far-away countries where some communities are so isolated that some people in power permit horrible injustices against the powerless, who become deprived of all hope. Cruel people who do not repent will find themselves isolated after death, themselves at the mercy of creatures stronger than they: the demons in Hell.
