In God's sight, little babies who die - before birth or after; of natural causes or abortion - are like shooting stars which flare briefly and then fall from the sky. These lives sparkled briefly before tumbling into God's care, as if into a father's arms; yet much prayer is necessary, to halt the evil of abortion by which some people do a grave wrong to the babies, and to their own souls.

The unrepentant, if they die in gave sin, shall find themselves swept away from the Father's sight as if by a tidal wave.

Though we can see hints of God's glory in nature, we can only 'touch' God in and through Christ. Sin made a gigantic barrier - like a vast curtain across the skies - between Heaven and earth. Only Christ's Cross has torn away that barrier. Christ has made a way through: the Way that we find when we reach Christ and Calvary at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
The Father accepts with delight the gifts we have brought to the altar.
God loves, as His Creation, the whole of the natural world: bright oceans teaming with life, with whales' waterspouts, and waves glinting in the sunlight, as shoals of fish circle underwater. Flocks of birds soar through the bright sky in the sweet, breezy air, and His glory shines over all. God delights in our love for Him even more than He delights in His Creation.
Like Mary, we sometimes have to face the 'burial' of our earthly hopes; yet God can give us lasting joy if we put our trust in Him.
As the priest stretched out his hand to bless the water in the font, at Easter, God the Father stretched out His hand and touched the water.

Declining health can be seen not as a descent - but rather a 'flight' with Christ, above former occupations, soaring towards Heaven.

A Statue in the Garden: Here, we can see Our Lady's open-hearted approach to God. She always asked Him: "What would you like me to do?"

A screaming child, incoherent with anger, needs to be left to realise his need of help, and to admit his foolishness. Our wise God gives rebellious adults opportunities for reflection. He does not force us to do His Will. He even allows us, if we insist, to separate ourselves from Him eternally.
It was on Calvary that Christ made a bridge by which all who come to Him can reach Heaven; and it is at Mass that we find Calvary.
Someone who does great work for God can be held 'upright' in humility by two guy ropes: the knowledge of his sinfulness and of God's holiness.
To live on earth in blissful union with God is to live as if at the edge of the Heavenly City, on the mountain-top, far above the dark path below.
