The Church puts out living shoots of holiness to flower in every age. Those 'shoots' are the Saints who, alive with God in Heaven, are our contemporaries and beloved friends, even though they emerged at different times.

When we forgive someone for a specific deed, God's grace is at work in us. His forgiveness flows through us, as water flows through a tap in Lourdes. Yet when we are so full of charity that love and forgiveness 'flow out' of us upon every thought and deed we are Godlike; for His forgiveness is like the water that pours unceasingly down a mountainside.

The Saints are gathered here with Christ, at Exposition, all radiant with joy at His love and our devotion.

When someone prays in rapt attention to God, and is even lifted 'high' by Him in contemplation, it's as if she holds aside a curtain which had shut out the light of Heaven. She has made it possible - by God's grace - for His graces to pour down upon earth upon other people.

It is the Holy Spirit Who pours peace within the souls of Christ's friends, and even allows such souls to share that peace, even at a distance, through their communion with one another 'in Christ'. They can encourage one another to more fervent prayer - as when happy dolphins nudge one another, to encourage joyful leaps into the sunlight above the surface of the water.

Whoever adores Christ at Mass, and wants to remain with Him in spirit all day, can offer praise and thanks through Him to the Father all day, at work, as well as reparation for sin, and prayers for the needy

As a monk labours, by prayer, example, teaching and kindness, to care for and educate children, he is helping to build them into a series of temples of the Holy Spirit.

People are helped by our intercessions for them in prayer as surely as a desperate person caught in a quicksand is helped by friends who winch him to safety from a helicopter.

Where untruths or distortions of truth are included in programmes of Catechesis, or in Catholic talks and journals, it's as if people are being offered, at a party, a plate which holds drawing pins as well as nuts. Serious spiritual injury can result from poor or poisonous nutrition.

The Lord sees behind the image we present to the world. The Lord sees 'behind' our masks, our exteriors. He sees the state of our souls. He sees sinful souls as being grievously 'sick' and wounded, in desperate need of help - if they will accept it.

In His Divine Life, God is far 'higher' above us, because of His otherness, and His holiness and purity, than the most towering feature of our earthly landscape.

The Church is taught and guided by the Catholic Bishops who are in communion with one another and with the Pope. God has given us the Pope as our bond of unity. Only those Bishops who remain in union with the Pope (who is like the gem-stone in a ring of stones) are fulfilling God's plan and providing, with the Pope, authentic leadership for the Church.

The Church is the Body of Christ and we should not separate ourselves from it through disobedience, dissent or schism

Christ loves to bring His friends refreshment and new courage through His Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Whoever adores Christ before the tabernacle or monstrance, or receives Holy Communion, can be sure that, standing very close to Christ, are His Holy Mother and all the Saints too.

Whenever souls encourage one another in holiness they help one another to rise up in prayer towards Heaven: freed from fear, doubt or hesitation.

It is love for God that 'counts' in prayer. Someone who gives his entire attention to God in love and reverence might find himself rising to the 'heights' with no effort, as if on a magic carpet - unlike those who try to storm Heaven with loud demands. The Saints lean down, to encourage us all to approach God with patience and humility.

There are many different ways of praying, and many different interior attitudes; what matters is our sincere love for God
