It is as though Heaven has descended as far as a church sanctuary. We are united in praise with Christ, in our midst, and with the Saints. This is a living memorial of Christ's death: yet the Risen Christ is with us, praising the Father Who sent Him to be our Saviour.

We are right to unite ourselves with Christ's self-offering in the Mass, but we give God the Father further glory if we pause in private prayer, throughout the day, to renew our self-offering. In that way we honour God and draw grace upon ourselves and the Church, and we can be certain that Christ is with us at every step of the way.

Just as Our Blessed Lady persevered in hope, in the worst of all times, when her beloved son was dead, so must we all persevere in trust in God, even when our lives seem to be heading for disaster.
