Even when temptations swirl around us, Christ does not let us go, if we hold on to Him.

No evil force can undo what Christ does by His offering of His Holy Sacrifice. One who clings to the cross has hope.

We can offer up our sufferings in union with Jesus in His Passion, to comfort Him, and to help other souls. Every suffering in our lives can be offered up, united with Jesus in that same type of suffering in His own life: our fear united to His in Gethsemane; our being misunderstood, with Jesus deserted by His Apostles; our grief, with Jesus weeping for Lazarus; our fear of evil forces, with Jesus being tempted by Satan.

By frequent and fervent prayers to Our Lady we construct - by God's grace - a strong fence which keeps Satan at bay.

By the smallest evil thought or act, we might 'tilt the whole ground', causing others to fall into the darkness; yet the reverse is also true, and our good thoughts and actions can tip others towards the light.

Who is better than a repentant sinner at determinedly hauling along others, away from evil and towards Heaven?

The evil one always tries to besmirch what is good, to 'spoil' each new stage of prayer, as if throwing dirt into clear water.

Christ counts as done to Himself the good or evil that we do to others. He counts as done to Himself whatever insult, blow, ill-humour, or lack of reverence is directed to those 'other Christs', our priests, whom Christ has chosen to lead and serve us.

Careless or Selfish Thoughts: Satan can drag us down to danger, by our carelessness, as when an enemy catches hold of flapping garments.

Whoever cruelly deserts their spouse or children is causing them to suffer as Christ suffered in His Passion, when He was heartbroken and alone. Christ said that whatever evil we do to others, we do to Him, just as whatever good we do is 'counted' as done to Him.

Someone who has given both heart and mind to God in prayer, yet who is distracted by unwanted images, is no more to blame for them than a person who sits quietly in her room is to blame for the shadows cast on her window-blind by persons outside in the streetlight.

The whole life of the Church follows in Christ's 'wake' as part of God's eternal plan: the Apostles and Saints, a visible Church, Catholic life and culture and devotions. All of this was in the mind of God.

Everyone who is determined to aim for perfection, and to love Christ as He deserves to be loved, will at some stage need to 'hold on' with bleeding hands, weary with the effort, and shaken by the assaults of the Evil one.

Some people condemn extreme cruelty but are blind to their own sinfulness. Apparently good people can move towards great evil one centimetre at a time.

The light of the Holy Spirit shines in the soul of someone who prays in Jesus' name; and those earnest prayers are heard in Heaven. It took decades of prayer before Communism fell in Russia. We must not lose hope that, with persevering prayer, the evil of abortion can be overcome.
