Those who, for love of God, have endured spiritual darkness in patience are brought at last to 'fly' in prayer far above everyday concerns. No-one reaches such blissful contemplation except those who rise up through the grace of Christ. It cannot be achieved by merely human efforts.

Many people neglect their duties towards God and their neighbour. They fight and argue until death - when there is no spirit of charity in them to bring them up to Heaven.

Everyone who is determined to aim for perfection, and to love Christ as He deserves to be loved, will at some stage need to 'hold on' with bleeding hands, weary with the effort, and shaken by the assaults of the Evil one.

With a peaceful heart, and a peaceful conscience, a happy friend of Christ can 'lean' on Him, in Holy Communion.

Christ our risen Lord was Present above the altar, as if ascending from the tomb, His hands uplifted to the Father, interceding for us who believe in Him, our High Priest.

Our determination to move towards Christ, even in difficulties, is like the determination of a child who struggles towards her mother, even when she can only just walk. Persistence is part of the journey.

The Kingdom of Heaven, where God reigns in glory, extends as far as Earth: to each place, or each soul, where God's Will is done. Wherever people believe what is taught by Christ and His Church, and out of love for Christ put his teachings into practice, in truth, justice, love, purity and holiness, the Kingdom is made present. All are invited to enter.

It is right and necessary that we 'children of God' encourage others too to live in union with God through Baptism, and to persevere in love to the end. It is God's wish that when we are purified we enter Heaven as 'fire entering fire'. In God, there will be no more suffering or pain. Christ came down to earth, sharing our life, to offer us a share in His life.

God is so great, and the earth so small, that nothing can happen that He has not allowed - even the worst things that people suffer. To have trust in God is a magnificent way of showing love for God, believing that He is good, and that good can come out of evil; trust of the sort shown by Jesus our Lord in His earthly life-time.

Personal prayer, in our 'secret room', is never made alone; through Christ we are present with the whole company of Heaven

Many of Christ's brave friends have suffered mockery, imprisonment and death, in order to remain faithful to the teachings of His Church, and out of love for Him.

Jesus said that it is a narrow gate that leads to life, and a hard road. Prayer is the gate. If we refuse to enter it, how can we ask for forgiveness, receive the sacraments, grow in the knowledge and love of God, receive His gifts in prayer, and follow the way to Heaven?

Whoever is willing to abandon prayer to attend to a needy neighbour is, as she reaches out to help, reaching out to Christ, who looks on with love and gratitude. The greatest love for God is shown in doing His Will, whether in prayer or service.

A person who, for love of God, loves and serves her neighbour, walks a hard road towards Heaven, with steep climbs; but as she arrives, it is Christ Himself Who will kneel, wash her feet, then put a white robe over her head, for the feast of Heaven.

The blessed soul who has persevered to the end, in love of Christ and her neighbour, is led by the hand by Christ, to meet the Heavenly friends who are gathered to welcome her into their company. Like them, she now wears a 'wedding garment': a white robe.

Someone who wants to prepare for Heaven should simply do the Will of God, for love of God - whether it is by labouring, teaching, serving, or praying; or simply offering up her sufferings in sickness, with Jesus, to help souls.

At the end of time, Christ who rose from the dead in glory will judge all people. How fortunate will be those 'little ones' who have loved Him, and loved all who are weak, hungry, persecuted and slandered.

Each of us must one day stand before God, to give an account of our life on Earth, for our 'particular judgement'. Each person who is a true child of God will enter Heaven, or be helped to prepare for Heaven. Those who have no love for God or their neighbour cannot enter Heaven or Purgatory. Their journey ends in the Abyss.
