God is Truth, and when we speak truth to Him in prayer, it pleases Him, and we draw closer to Him, even as we say, perhaps, "I can't cope", or "Nobody loves me", or "I'm addicted", or "I hate those people", or "I'm afraid", or "I'm ashamed to look at you".

As gigantic flames leap up from the surface of the sun, so the ardent soul's fervent prayers leap up - as great 'flames' of glory - towards Heaven, whenever we offers sincere words of praise to God. This gives joy to the soul, and joy to Heaven.

We have a living relationship with the Saints who have died, so we should talk with them, ask for their prayers, treasure their feast days, honour them through their relics and shrines and statues, and follow their example.

We should treasure these as we treasure what connects us with earthly family and friends. We could ask the Saints for their prayers, with confidence in their love and God's goodness.

Whoever loves and trusts God, and remains faithful to Him, is drawn to His heart as surely as someone swept to the centre of a whirlpool
