Where people listen to the Church, and thank God for their children, and put the needs of family before their own ambitions, a home is like an oasis of light; old people and the sick are valued and cared for, as if in an oasis of light amidst the gloom of an uncaring society.

Those who turn to the Lord in their sufferings receive graces and blessings, and even new hope, unlike those who neither ask for His help nor thank Him for what is good - some of whom fall into despair.

Time and space seem to vanish at the Mass, after the consecration. We are present to the once-for-all Sacrifice offered on our altar in a sacramental manner. We pray with and through Christ to our Heavenly Father, as if at the foot of the cross, with Mary, our Mother.

It can happen that someone finds himself so isolated and unhappy, through his mistakes and much-regretted decisions, that it's as if he waits in a deep pit, praying for the courage and humility to reach out and accept the necessary help, to return to joy.

As a beautiful jewel rests in a worthy jewel-case, so the Blessed Sacrament should be placed in a worthy setting, honoured by the best of everything. Place, art, behaviour, prayer: all should be worthy of Christ our Saviour and God.

The Saints in Heaven are well-placed to be able to turn to God and pray for us who still strive for holiness. The Saints are holier and more prayerful than even our kindest and most prayerful friends on earth; and we are wise if we ask for their help.

Some people, even though they have been saved, see clearly when they die how ill-prepared they are for Heaven, as if wearing filthy clothes - because they have neglected penance and prayer. They see all this in Heaven's light- yet they also see how merciful is God, Who invites them into Purgatory.
