Christ asked me always to practice what I preach: to maintain in His Presence a beautiful 'balance', between approaching Him with awe and gratitude, and being confident that He offers me, daily, experiences of the most tender intimacy.

Christ commended me for my efforts to pray every prayer - even grace before meals - with greater reverence, recollection and gratitude, and an awareness of the holiness of Him to Whom I speak.

Jesus Christ, our incarnate God, is substantially Present with us in the Holy Eucharist. We cannot see Him within the Sacred Host. But we who believe in His words accept the truth about His Presence, rejoice in it - and are eager to show our love and devotion in traditional ways of adoration, reverence, and with processions and hymns.

A good priest feels privileged to be ordained, is awestruck by Christ's love, believes all that the Church teaches, never grumbles about his work, is keen to hand on the truth, is fearless in preaching, tells the whole truth about faith and morals, and requests reverent behaviour in church, where Christ is Really Present in the Blessed Sacrament.

Christ is Present in every Catholic church, surrounded by His holy Angels, as people who say they love Him ignore His Presence and even chatter at length.

People who believe in the words of Jesus about the Holy Eucharist behave as people should behave towards their God and Saviour, Really Present under the appearance of Bread. They approached with love, awe and reverence.

In deliberate steps (Christ explained), He had led me slowly towards a recognition of the reverence and beauty associated with the Traditional way of offering the Holy Sacrifice, and the customary way, for women, of veiling their hair in His Presence, during the Sacred Liturgy.

Whenever we know we are dealing with a powerful substance, we wisely change our behaviour. We wear rubber-soled shoes if we work with electricity, lead aprons near X-ray machines, protective clothing for nuclear power. There is no need for irreverent liturgies to be offered to youngsters, in the hope of sparking an interest in religion. It is better, in Christ's sight, to prepare joyful social events for them, followed by thorough catechesis, and opportunities for Reconciliation. Then there can be a beautiful inspiring Mass, or Adoration and Benediction.

Our guardian Angels always pray with immense reverence and devotion. They love to see us pray in the same manner; and though we do not usually see them we can delight in the knowledge that they are beside us as we pray: our faithful guardians and companions.
