It's as if souls are like seed pods - we can respond to the sunlight, which is God's perpetual love for everyone, and produce beautiful plants, or we can choose to remain 'shut-in', and shrivel.

Because of their Baptism, souls have been changed; and those who enter Heaven are 'shielded' from the burning fire of love which is God's nature. Instead of suffering through contact with His holiness, they shine, in joy: as if each is a little flame of love, visible even amidst the surrounding Divine Glory.

Thousands and thousands of Saints are waiting to greet each happy soul who flies swiftly to Heaven, at death, and each happy soul who ascends from Purgatory, purified, into Heaven's light. Each soul is greeted with joy, love, and admiration.

As we praise God at Mass, with and through Christ, we praise Him with the whole Church, which includes the Saints of Heaven - here encircling the altar - and the Holy Souls.

The Holy Soul who is ready for Heaven is met not only by Christ, but also by His holy Mother and all the Saints. They all lead that joyful soul up the flight of steps to the Father's throne, in great gladness.

It is a cause for sadness, that many people never pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory - amongst whom might be their own friends and relations. It is not a light matter, either, that many do not themselves believe that they might need purification after death; it's as if they imagine they will all be perfect, ready for Heaven!

There are some souls who drift towards disaster. Though outwardly pious they abandon God through their self-will, disobedience and neglect of people in their care.

Some souls are horrified, at death, to realise how many times they have ignored the Lord's approaches, kindness, opportunities and warnings.

One day, if we have persevered in the Faith, our darkness will be replaced by glory. The brave soul who has climbed to the top of the 'ladder', even with bleeding hands, will see Christ and Our Lady waiting to greet Him.

When someone is suddenly enlightened by God, it is as if an undersea earthquake takes place. The 'shock' of a new illumination in someone's soul brings great changes in the 'landscape' of his life.

In a seaside town, we can gaze at the busy streets and harbour, or turn to admire the sky and the calm sea. So, in our souls, we can gaze at our problems, in gloom and confusion, or we can choose to 'turn' to look towards God, to rest in Him, and to gain wisdom and peace.

Christ sits beside us in the 'cavern' of our souls. His work can flower if we make space for him there.

The great 'height' to which a saintly soul reaches still falls far shot of the infinite 'heights' of the holiness of God, from whom we receive life, and faith and hope.

We ought to prepare for a 'good death'. A soul in danger can be saved, by faith and the sacraments - whether little known people or Popes.

The Kingdom of Heaven, where God reigns in glory, extends as far as Earth: to each place, or each soul, where God's Will is done. Wherever people believe what is taught by Christ and His Church, and out of love for Christ put his teachings into practice, in truth, justice, love, purity and holiness, the Kingdom is made present. All are invited to enter.

It should be the aim of each Christian to climb the mountain of holiness, and to emerge one day from the darkness of sin to the 'fresh air' of life in Christ, in purity, amidst the flowers of grace - ready to greet Christ when He calls the soul to die, and to go 'Home'

It is strange that when so many children are given patient instruction on matters such as re-cycling, or taking exercise, there is a great silence on far more important matters, such as chastity, honesty, love for others and reverence for God - without which we endanger our very souls.
