In the lower depths of Purgatory are souls - like desperate people in a mediaeval dungeon who huddle close to the walls - who have no-one to pray for them.

As soon as I had received Christ in Holy Communion, I was shown by Christ that He stood within my soul, so to speak, praising and adoring God the Father above, just as I had been doing throughout the day, as I prayed, and offered up my sufferings, for God's glory, and to help the Church.

Christ explained the marvel of Baptism, by which the Three Divine Persons come to dwell in glory within the newly-baptised soul who can now have sure, intimate access to God, in his own soul, without his having to travel, as in earlier times, to the Temple.

But Jesus, by His saving work, and the gift of Baptism, has made possible the entry of God, and the indwelling of God, in His glory, in the soul of the one who has freely accepted Christ and the sacrament.

We are right to pray for souls in Purgatory, where good people are made perfect. No-one wants to leave Purgatory who cannot yet gaze upon God with child-like joy and gratitude.

It is a marvellous 'moment', when a soul is shown that he is perfectly purified, and is ready to leave Purgatory and enter Heaven. There, in the Father's light, he will meet his Saviour, Christ.

By our sincere intercessions we help to save souls in mortal sin who, if they do not change, will fall into Hell.

The souls of those who live in serious sin, without following God's laws and the Church's teachings, are like a sea of melting ice, in which there is no hope of life; the souls of those in a 'state of grace', however, are like a land of fruit trees, cornfields, rivers and blue skies, far above the icy wastes, close to a mountain whose top lies in heaven.

A Catholic's soul is almost lifeless - like a vast melting ice sheet unable to provide for life - if there is no evident love for Jesus, especially for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Catholic programmes are deeply flawed which omit, diminish or scorn devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

I saw a soul rising up from Purgatory like a man waking from a bad dream, who then gazed around him in wonder. On seeing Heaven's glory, he was amazed at its beauty, and full of joy that, in his purified state, he was about to enter.

God pours out into our souls tremendous graces when we confess our sins in the Sacrament of Penance. As a dirty room needs cleaning right into the corners, so our souls need purifying in every 'area' - by the grace of Christ, Who is at work in His Church.

The graces that God pours out upon souls at the mention of Jesus' name in our prayers are like a 'rain' of emeralds, rubies and other precious stones in earthly life. We all ought to pray in His name, so that spiritual treasures will enrich those we love, and people in need.

When people slide 'downhill' into mortal sin, it is impossible to regain the 'heights' of holiness without God's grace. We must beware of yearning for the whole world, only to lose our souls.

Where divine fire blazes up from a human heart - fire which is perfect charity - it reaches as far as the great 'Fire of Charity' of Heaven, which is the Godhead; and so there is union. Where a soul lacks charity, there is no union - though only God can judge.
